What's next?

[Samuel] Madam Yilda's tarots

Some candles suddenly lit up, revealing a small wooden table covered by an ultramarine blue velvet cloth. Behind stood a woman, sitting cross legged on a cushion covered stool. She was wearing black and red robes, her deep cleavage showing a pair of grapefruit size breasts, sagging a bit with age. Her dark brown hair framed a mature face laid with heavy make up. The last notable characteristic that Samuel could notice were the gigantic leathery black wings that covered her back, moving with her arms while she was slowly shuffling a small deck of cards. Samuel thought for a moment that he should feel weirded out by a person with those wings, or at least think that they could have been fake. None of these actually passed his mind though. Like with the wind outside moments before, everything was supposed to happen and it was right.

"You think you are here for a noble cause, Samuel. Winning back the love of your life. Why is that, I should ask."

"No, you are wrong. I just want to talk with her, understand why she ghosted me." He ran the possibilities of his encounter with Vanessa all morning. Most of them ended up with them reconnecting and becoming flirtatious friends again, so that he could go back and wait for the time to confess his undying love for her. He just had to persevere and find a way to get close to her again.

"You are just not ready to admit that to yourself. That's because you think you know yourself, but you really don't... a pity..."

Sam was starting to get mad. His face was heating up. He just wanted to tell the woman to go fuck herself and get out. But he couldn't. The feeling on his back returned, making him move forward and sit on the stool in front of him. "And I suppose you are going to tell me who I really am? You are here to give me guidance?"

"Oh, I'm not here to give you guidance, my child. The cards are. The cards do not lie, Samuel. The gods speak through them. Are you ready to listen to them?"

"Whatever, at least you are cheap!" Sam tossed a ten dollar bill to the lady.

"Well then, ready or not the truth will come out." She stopped shuffling and laid the cards face down on the velvet cloth. Sam could count around twenty of them. "First, choose a card. This will be the one card that guides all the others. When we're done here we will turn it and see what the world will say about yourself."

The young man went to pick up the second card on the left, but the moment he touched it Madam Yilda swatted his hand away. She picked up the card and put it, still face down, to the side. Then starting from the spot where the card was taken she moved the one single card to the opposite side of the deck and put it back together, on card on top of the other, right to left.

"Now we can begin with the actual reading."
